Description: Friendly Italian family (bilingual Italian-English), based in Rome, seek an English Mother Tongue live-in nanny-governess to work with two children, B8 and G14. Sole and shared care and occasional proxy parenting required. The nanny-governess should maintain and improve the children’s language skills by interacting with them in English, encouraging reading, assisting with homework, etc. Previous teaching and/or tutoring experience desirable.
B8 attends a local Italian private catholic college, G14 attends an English-speaking high school. Both are conscientious students and achieve good grades at school. B8 is energetic and a big fan of football, G14 is into tennis, fashion and social media.
Housekeeper employed for 5 hours per day. The successful candidate will work as a team with the housekeeper and parents to ensure the smooth running of the house, which may include tasks such as tidying, packing the dishwasher, preparing a shopping list. You will be responsible for organizing the children’s clothes & toys, buying stationery/school books & uniform, supervising playdates with friends (when COVID restrictions are lifted), playing at the park, accompanying to sports practice, school drop-off and pickup of B8. You will prepare snacks, light meals and occasional simple family dinners, so basic cooking skills would be an asset. The family live in a lovely part of Rome, with parks and shops nearby, the location is well-connected to public transport (a 7-minute walk to the nearest metro station). A move to a bigger apartment is planned. The family has a second home on the Italian Riviera and typically spend a couple of months at the beach in the summer, so a confident swimmer is needed.
Previous two nannies stayed 6 and 4 years each.
Requirements: EU passport an advantage, otherwise a visa & work permit can be arranged. Non-smoker. Must be Covid-aware and willing to follow strict hygiene practices. Italian language (or an interest in learning) would be a bonus.
Accomodation: Bedroom with ensuite bathroom provided. You may need to share with a child whilst on vacation.
Working hours: 50 hours a week, Monday-Friday including 2 Saturday mornings until 14.00 per month. Term-time hours are 1,5 hours early morning (the rest of the morning is free whilst the children are at school). From early afternoon you will work 7/8 hours (until after dinner). School holiday hours approx. 9.00am-8.00pm, but some flexibility is required.
